Georgetown, or Janjanbureh, is located on an island in the river Gambia, far in the interior of the Gambia. During the slavery thousands of slaves have been waiting for transport to the former colonies here. It is of historical importance . The drive to Georgetown takes up to 4.5 hours over the South Bank. It is located around 300 km from Kololi by road. On the way to Janjanbureh several typical Gambian villages will be crossed. The slave houses are important to visit.
